Even if you are one of the world’s most famous smartphone giants, it is normal to be indecisive when the decisions you make will affect your success in the short and long term: The South Korean smartphone giant Samsung is currently at a crossroads regarding the future of its Galaxy series. Here’s the dilemma the company is facing…

Samsung is having trouble choosing a processor!

The indecision surrounding the processor for Samsung’s flagship Galaxy series continues to make headlines in the tech world. The South Korean tech giant is at a critical decision point for the Galaxy S25 series. The company has two major options ahead: its in-house developed Exynos 2500 processor or the significantly more expensive Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

In tests, the Exynos 2500’s performance figures look quite promising. The new processor scored 15,960 points in OpenCL tests, surpassing the 14,661 points achieved by the Exynos 2400 processor in the previous model, the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, the real issue lies in the production process. Samsung is facing significant challenges in manufacturing the Exynos 2500 in the desired quantity and quality using its 3-nanometer technology.

According to supply chain information, it is nearly impossible for the Exynos 2500 to be ready in time for mass production of the Galaxy S25 series. The production of the processor in the required quality and quantity is expected to take place not in the last quarter of 2024 but in the first half of 2025.

Samsung’s processor supply costs have risen significantly in recent years. The cost, which was $5.7 billion when the Galaxy S21 series was launched in 2021, rose to $8.7 billion last year. This situation is pushing Samsung to consider alternative plans.

In the coming weeks, Samsung will need to make this critical decision. Which processor will be used in the Galaxy S25 series will not only be important in terms of performance but also in terms of cost and production processes.
